The Face Not Made with Human Hands
This is a representation of an image of Jesus known as the Mandylion. Tradition says the King of Edessa sent word to Jesus asking for His help in healing. Jesus was unable to go but wiped His face on a cloth – miraculously imprinting the image of His face. He then sent the cloth to Edessa where a mere touch of the cloth healed the king. This icon represents the imprinted image, therefore referred to as “not made by human hands”.
